Supreme Court Dismisses Lawsuit Against Legal Colorado Marijuana

In a landmark ruling on Monday, the U.S. Supreme Court voted against the lawsuit brought on by Nebraska and Oklahoma against neighboring Colorado in an attempt to stop their legal marijuana operation. In the case, filed in late 2014, NE and OK unsuccessfully argued that legal marijuana in Colorado was akin to pollution, creating an unnecessary burden for their police and law enforcement officials. Justice Samuel Alito wrote the dissent, stating that the Supreme Court had no jurisdiction over this interstate matter, and the complainants therefore had no avenue for judicial relief. The ruling was widely celebrated by marijuana reform organizations across the country, including the Marijuana Policy Project and NORML.
